Bachata Tradicional
The authentic Dominican style - fast footwork, short movements, playful energy. Danced in small space and built on sharp foot patterns. Ideal for understanding the root of the dance.
Traditional, Modern and Sensual Bachata - Bachata Dance School Salsa Rayo
Bachata was born in the Dominican Republic in the 1960s and is today one of the most beloved Latin dances worldwide. At Salsa Rayo we teach all three main styles - Traditional, Modern, and Sensual Bachata - with emphasis on connection, musicality, and partner technique. Bachata classes run in Agios Dimitrios, Athens, a 5-minute walk from the metro, for every level from absolute beginner to advanced.
Bachata is the perfect dance to start with if you are new to Latin dance. It is slower than salsa, the music is romantic and easy to follow, and the basic step is learned quickly. At Salsa Rayo you will learn: correct posture and body position, leading and following technique, body isolations for hips and shoulders, partner connection through weight and chemistry, and the 3 different styles so you can dance confidently at any bachata party.

The most widespread style at parties. Combines traditional footwork with turns, doubles and advanced positions. This is what you see in most bachata festival videos.
Created in Barcelona in 2005 and now dominant worldwide. Emphasis on body movements, body waves, dips, and slow transitions. Sensual bachata teaches the body to express itself musically - which is why it is so loved by couples for wedding first dances.
No partner needed, no experience needed, no special shoes required. Arrive 10 minutes early to get oriented. The class starts with a warm-up, followed by the basic step explanation, solo practice, then partner practice (we rotate partners often). The class closes with free practice where you apply what you learned to real bachata music. Class duration: 60 minutes.
Bachata is one of the most popular choices for wedding first dances. It is easier than salsa, romantic, photogenic, and learnable in 4 to 8 private lessons. Read our full guide on wedding first dance in bachata or book a free trial class.
→No, it is one of the easiest Latin dances to start with. The basic step is 4 counts (1-2-3-tap) and you can dance simple bachata from your first class. Sensual bachata technique takes longer, but Traditional and Modern are very accessible.
No. We rotate partners often in class - this way you learn to lead or follow with different bodies and levels, which makes you a far better dancer. Most students come alone and make friends in class.
Bachata has 4 counts per measure, is slower (~120 BPM) and more romantic. Salsa has 8 counts, is faster (~180-220 BPM), has more turn patterns, and is more technical. Many start with bachata and add salsa later. We teach both.
